Rezolv Energy says its Dama Solar project has secured the authorization needed to move toward construction in Romania
Its planned capacity has been raised to 1.2 GW, with operations targeted for 2028
Financing and procurement are progressing, with financial close expected soon
Dama Solar, a Rezolv Energy project with a planned capacity of 1.2 GW, has received setting-up authorization from the Romanian Energy Regulatory Authority (ANRE). Rezolv says that on completion in 2028, it will become the European Union’s largest solar PV project in operation.
Located in Romania’s Arad County, the project has now cleared what the developer describes as the final legal approval needed before construction. The project’s planned installed capacity has been increased to 1.2 GW following technology and design changes.
Actis-backed Rezolv acquired the rights to develop the project in November 2022 when its capacity was announced as 1.04 GW, along with 135 MW of battery energy storage capacity (see Europe’s ‘Largest Ever’ Solar Plant With 1 GW Capacity).
Dama Solar is backed by two contracts for difference (CfDs) awarded by Romania’s Ministry of Energy in the country’s second CfD auction last year. The project is also planned to include one of Romania’s largest battery energy storage systems. The storage facility is intended to support the project’s output and provide greater flexibility to the energy system, it adds.
Dama Solar is also planned to include an 82-hectare nature reserve. Rezolv said it would be one of the largest private-led nature restoration initiatives linked to a solar project in Southeastern Europe.
Following the ANRE approval, the project is now moving through financing and procurement. Rezolv expects to reach financial close soon, after which construction will commence.
