195 MW solar in Poland for Greencells: German utility scale solar project developer and EPC company Greencells has secured 2 projects in Poland—one with 125 MW capacity will be one of the country's largest solar power plants in the southeast, it stated. The 2nd project will be located in the northeast with 70 MW capacity. Both facilities will enter construction in 2023. Greencells said it has other projects with around 180 MW capacity under closing.
Green hydrogen production facility in Austria: Austrian power company Energie Steiermark (E-Steiermark) said it will use a large-scale solar PV system comprising 6,000 sq. mtr. of solar collectors and an existing biogas plant to build the country's 1st off-site green hydrogen production facility. On completion, it will generate 300 tons of green hydrogen annually, which would be enough to enable a hydrogen-powered car to cover over 40 million kms distance. The €10 million ($11 million) plant will be located in Gabersdorf, Southern Styria on 10,000 sq. mtr. area. Construction on site will start in Spring 2022 and completed by the end of the year. E-Steiermark has already secured its 1st offtaker in the form of Wolfram Bergbau & Hutten AG that has signed a contract to procure 840,000 cubic meters or 70 tons of green hydrogen annually for its metallurgy plants in the region.
Iberdrola constructing 50 MW solar in Burgos: Spanish energy company Iberdrola has started construction on a 50 MW solar power plant in Burgos municipality. The project is Castile and Leon's 1st ever solar PV project it said, and will be equipped with more than 145,300 panels, each with 345W output. Villamedianilla and Velljera facilities, in which 50 MW will be divided, will come online in 2022 for an investment of €32 million ($36 million). Iberdrola already has wind power facilities operating in the region. With the start of 50 MW PV project construction, Iberdrola aims to install 1.8 GW of green production in the coming years here.
EIB support for Endesa's RE plans in Spain: The European Investment Bank (EIB) has signed a financing agreement with Endesa for €250 million ($282 million), with potential to be expanded to €700 million ($791 million) in 2 years, to be invested in deploying renewable energy facilities. Endesa plans to use the proceeds to construct 3 solar power plants and a wind farm with a total installed capacity of 645 M, costing €500 million. For the EIB, this is its 1st financing operation in Spain tied to sustainability criteria, that links financing conditions to reduce scope 1 direct GHG emissions. If all of €700 million is invested, the bank believes it would lead to the deployment of 1.5 GW solar power plant and 400 MW of onshore wind power, along with transmission infrastructure required for interconnection to the grid.
