UK-based Aura Power and Verdant Energy have merged to form a combined solar and battery energy storage platform that will operate under the Aura Power brand, backed by CVC DIF. The merged business will have around 1 GW of operating and under-construction solar and battery storage assets in the UK, along with a 10 GW development pipeline. Aura Power founder and CEO Simon Coulson will continue to lead the company and retain a minority stake. The transaction also includes financing from Eiffel Investment Group to support the merger, refinance existing facilities and fund future growth.
Solar PV manufacturer LONGi has announced a global partnership with German football club FC Bayern Munich during the club's Asia tour. The partnership under the theme ‘POWER ON, GAME ON’ was unveiled at an event in Hong Kong recently. The collaboration aims to combine clean energy awareness with football fan engagement. The companies said they will also explore using LONGi's solar solutions to support FC Bayern's sustainability initiatives, including potential applications at training facilities and stadium infrastructure. The partnership marks LONGi's second major sports collaboration in 2026, following its association with the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON.
Spain's transmission system operator Red Eléctrica expects the August 12, 2026, solar eclipse to temporarily reduce solar PV generation on the Iberian Peninsula by about 5 GW at its peak, based on its forecasting model. The operator said the eclipse will occur when solar output is already declining naturally and is not expected to affect electricity demand coverage. However, it will implement preventive measures, including closer coordination with grid operators and authorities, increased operating reserves and continuous monitoring to ensure system reliability. The eclipse is not expected to have a significant impact on PV generation in the Balearic or Canary Islands.
Denmark’s European Energy has completed the sale of its 90 MW Cerano Energreen solar project in Brindisi, southern Italy. The ready-to-build project has all construction and grid permits in place and is backed by a 20-year Contract for Difference (CfD) awarded under Italy's FerX auction scheme. Once operational, the solar park is expected to generate about 160,000 MWh of electricity annually, enough to supply around 55,000 Italian households. The company said the divestment aligns with its strategy of developing, maturing and selling renewable energy assets while recycling capital into new projects across its portfolio.
