In the eighth edition of its call for tenders for rooftop solar projects, France has awarded 129.4 MW PV capacity to 268 projects. This capacity would need to come up on buildings, agricultural sheds and carports.
The French Ministry of Ecological and Solidarity Transition said these projects will generate electricity at an average price of €97.48 ($107.11) per MWh for systems in the range of 100 kW and 500 kW. For those systems ranging between 500 kW and 8 MW, the average price was €86.54 ($95.08) per MWh.
The list of winners of the solar tender can be viewed on the website of the ministry.
The ministry also announced the results of the fourth call for tenders for wind energy and awarded 20 projects with a cumulative capacity of 576 MW with an average price of €66.5 ($73) per MWh over a period of 20 years.
To be able to meet its solar PV capacity target of 35.6 GW to 44.5 GW by the year 2028, France is working on issuing more tenders. Minister Elisabeth Borne announced that in 2020 France will launch two separate tenders for solar PV projects for 850 MW and 1 GW, involving both ground-mounted and rooftop PV, along with more rooftop solar tenders (see France To Tender Around 2 GW Solar In 2020).
