Russia's Hevel Group is building 1.3 MW of off-grid solar power capacity in the Far East region of Russia pairing it with battery storage. The 3 PV plants are currently under construction as standalone systems. Power produced will enable rural villages in the region to secure clean electricity.
These 3 hybrid off-grid solar and storage plants are expected to lower the consumption of diesel by up to 500 tons in the first year of commissioning, Hevel said.
The solar module maker, developer and EPC services company is also building another 2.5 MW off-grid PV project combined with 3 diesel power stations and a 450 kWh storage system in Krasnoyarsk, Siberia. On completion at the end of 2020, it will be the largest off-grid solar PV project in Russia, according to Hevel.
In July 2020, Hevel Group provided an update on its 1.2 MW solar PV plant integrated with the largest hydro plant in the Far East region operated by PJSC RusHydro, completed in December 2019. Within 6 months, the PV system generated 558.7 MWh of clean power for the grid covering significant amounts of the hydro power plant's electricity demand.
