Key Takeaways
  • France’s HoloSolis has raised €220 million to fund its 5 GW solar PV cell and module gigafactory

  • 2 new family-owned investors contributed over €13 million to the financing round

  • It has now secured more than 20 GW in customer letters of intent for the upcoming factory

HoloSolis, the French solar PV manufacturer, has raised a total of €220 million in financing to fund the development of its planned 5 GW solar PV cell and module gigafactory in France’s Sarreguemines-Hambach region in Moselle. The deal brings in 2 new investors, both family-owned businesses, to its fold.

France’s Calès Technologie operates as a turnkey engineering company for industrial and energy projects through its subsidiary CAP INGELEC. The other new investor is Swiss industrial group Forming AG, which provides cold profiling and structural design for solar power plants. For Forming, HoloSolis said, “With expertise across the entire value chain and its strategic location in the Upper Rhine Region, it is a natural partner for HoloSolis.”

Both these investors have together pooled in over €13 million, expanding the total funds raised for the gigafactory to €220 million. HoloSolis’ existing investors include Heraeus, InnoEnergy, TSE, IDEC Groupe, and Armor Group.

EU-Startups quoted HoloSolis CEO Bertrand Lecacheux as saying that the company now has more than 20 GW of customer letters of intent for its upcoming TOPCon solar cell and module manufacturing gigafactory. In September, HoloSolis secured a patent license from China’s Trinasolar for its n-type TOPCon portfolio (see HoloSolis Secures Trinasolar’s TOPCon Patent License For French Factory).

HoloSolis targets to produce the initial modules on site in 2027, after it starts construction of the fab in 2026, having secured all requisite funding for the Grand Est region-located fab, whose administration committed €3 million in regional funding to the project in 2024 (see French Solar Giga Factory Lands €3 Million State Aid).
