India’s annual solar PV module production capacity has reached around 144 GW under the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) List-I as of November 2025. Of this, about 81 GW was added in calendar year 2025, representing a 99% year-over-year (YoY) increase from approximately 41 GW added in 2024, says the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE). 

Solar cell manufacturing capacity enlisted under ALMM List-II has grown to around 24 GW (see India Solar PV News Snippets). These figures include close to 11 GW of module and 5 GW of cell capacity added by the beneficiaries of the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme in 2025.  

However, JMK Research and Analytics says India’s module and cell manufacturing capacity exceeded 175 GW and 30 GW, respectively. 

MNRE has already proposed ALMM List-III for indigenously manufactured solar wafers, to be implemented from June 1, 2028, giving the local industry time to catch up to the demand (see India’s MNRE Proposes ALMM List-III For Solar Wafers). 

India’s renewable energy market expanded by a record 44.51 GW through November 2025, nearly doubling it from 24.72 GW during the same period in 2024. Solar PV leads the pack with 34.98 GW installed, according to the MNRE. Solar additions in the country registered an over 67% YoY increase from 20.85 GW of installations between January and November 2024.

As of the end of November 2025, India’s aggregate solar PV installed capacity reached 132.85 GW, improving 41% YoY, out of the national renewable energy total of 253.96 GW. This includes 10.2 GW installed under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Surakshaevam Utthaan Mahabhiyan Yojana (PM-KUSUM Scheme), one of the flagship solar schemes, of which 6.5 GW was added in 2025.

For solar power, there is more to come, as by November 30, 2025, the country had 69.12 GW under implementation with another 35.46 GW tendered.  

BloombergNEF sees India adding about 35 GW AC of solar capacity in 2025, and 37 GW AC in 2026, and expects high growth to continue through 2035, but cautions that policy uncertainty could create volatility (see Global Solar Market Faces Pressure; Long-Term Growth Intact).
