Partners Group is acquiring majority stake in Sunsure Energy; AGEL claims world's largest wind-solar hybrid power developer tag with 450 MW project; ReNew Power to build 300 MW captive hybrid RE project for Jindal Stainless Steel; MSEDCL launches 300 MW AC solar tender; TotalEnergies ENEOS build 1 MW rooftop PV facility for Textile mill.

Partners Group invests in Sunsure Energy: Indian commercial and industrial (C&I) solar power company Sunsure Energy has attracted the interest of Swiss private markets firm Partners Group to acquire a majority stake in the company for up to $400 million. It aims to transform Sunsure into a next-generation independent power producer (IPP) to build and own utility scale solar, wind, solar-wind hybrid, and battery storage projects, with a target of over 3 GW operational capacity. In its new avatar, Sunsure will sell power directly to C&I customers through long term power purchase agreements (PPA) to capitalize on the latter's need to decarbonize and bring down electricity costs. Sunsure will also provide value added services such as energy-as-a-serve and carbon credit management.

450 MW wind-solar hybrid project online: Adani Green Energy Ltd (AGEL) has commissioned a 450 MW wind-solar hybrid power project in Rajasthan's Jaisalmer, The project comprises 420 MW solar and 105 MW wind energy facilities. It will sell power generated to the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) at INR 2.67 per kWh for 25 years. It now joins the company's other wind-solar hybrid projects of 390 MW energized in May 2022, followed by 600 MW in September 2022—all in Jaisalmer. AGEL claims it is now the world's largest wind-solar hybrid power developer. Its total operational wind-solar hybrid capacity is now 1.44 GW at a single location and is part of its total operational renewable capacity of 7.17 GW.

300 MW RE project for Jindal Stainless Steel: Jindal Stainless Steel has contracted ReNew Power to develop a 300 MW utility scale captive renewable energy project for the company using both solar and wind energy technologies for its Jajpur facility in Odisha. The utility scale 'innovative' wind-solar hybrid solution with a high-capacity utilization factor will generate a significantly higher amount of energy per unit—700 million units annually, ReNew stated. It will power Jindal's increase in combined production capacity from 1.9 million ton per annum (MTPA) to 2.9 MTPA as the company targets becoming a net zero emitter by 2050. ReNew says this project helps bring its round-the-clock (RTC) solution to the B2B space. The project is expected to enter commercial operations by May 2024.

300 MW AC MSEDCL solar tender: The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Co., Ltd. (MSEDCL) has launched an expression of interest (EOI) cum request for selection (RFS) round to procure 300 MW AC solar power from decentralized solar projects. A minimum of 500 kW to maximum 2 MW capacity will be developed under component A of Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthan Mahabhiyan (PM-KUSUM) Scheme for farmers. Power generated by these distributed solar power projects will be consumed for agriculture load at local level to reduce distribution losses. At the same time, farmers get an opportunity to increase their income by using their barren and uncultivable land for solar. Launched on December 6, 2022, it will accept bids till January 9, 2023. Details on MSEDCL's website.

1 MW solar for textile mill in Tamil Nadu: TotalEnergies ENEOS has installed a rooftop solar PV project with over 1 MW capacity for textile manufacturer Sri Kannapiran Mills in Tamil Nadu. This project will power about 30% of the manufacturing site with clean energy that's estimated as 1,500 MWh annually. With this PV project, the company will be able to save on electricity costs for 25 years, without any upfront investments.
