Green ammonia to Japan: A Heads of Terms (HoT) agreement was signed between Sembcorp Industries, Sojitz Corporation, Kyushu Electric Power Co., and NYK Line to explore green ammonia supply from India to Japan. The first-of-its-kind collaboration between the 2 countries was signed in the presence of India’s Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi. Under the agreement, Sembcorp will lead the production of green ammonia in India with the help of renewable energy sources. Kyushu will integrate the fuel into its energy mix, partially replacing coal consumption at its thermal power plants in Japan. Sojitz will act as the business intermediary, facilitating the connection between the ammonia producer and offtaker. NYK will oversee the maritime transportation of the green ammonia from India to Japan. Under India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM), the country targets to achieve a production capacity of 5 million TPA of green hydrogen by 2030. For the fertilizer sector, the allocation of green ammonia was increased to 750,000 TPA in June 2024, from 550,000 TPA planned earlier for the tender under tranche I of Mode 2A under Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) program’s component II.

New equity for Continuum Green Energy: Indian renewable energy company Continuum Green Energy has raised INR 12.56 billion ($150 million) in new equity from specialist investment business Just Climate. It will invest these proceeds to support the deployment of wind-solar-hybrid energy generation and storage projects across India. Continuum focuses on serving commercial and industrial (C&I) customers with its green energy supply. The company is majority-owned by North Haven Infrastructure Partners, a global infrastructure investment fund managed by Morgan Stanley Infrastructure Partners. Its current operational and near-operational portfolio totals close to 2.2 GW of wind and wind-solar-hybrid projects. Over the next 24 months, it targets to execute a further 1.3 GW to meet increasing demand from customers.

AIIB & ADB backing for Engie: The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and Asian Development Bank (ADB) have committed up to INR 14.6 billion ($176 million) for Engie’s 400 MW AC solar PV plant in Gujarat. Both the lenders are providing up to INR 7.3 billion ($88 million) each to support the development, construction, operation and maintenance of the project. It is contracted under a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) for 100% capacity with the Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL) at a tariff of INR 2.49 ($0.030)/kW.

Inaugurated by the UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the solar power plant was built for an investment of INR 4.08 billion ($48.6 million) and completed within 18 months. Close to 160 million units of clean power generated from this project will be supplied to various industries.

IndiGrid partnership for RE evacuation: India’s listed power sector infrastructure investment trust (InvIT) IndiGrid has secured international support for the development of infrastructure to evacuate around 6 GW of renewable energy in the states of Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. British International Investment (BII), Norfund managed Norwegian Climate Investment Fund, and Techno Electric and Engineering Company Limited will invest in IndiGrid’s 2 inter-state transmission system (ISTS) projects, namely Ishanagar Power Transmission Limited (IPTL), Dhule Power Transmission Limited (DPTL), and Kallam Transco Limited (KTCO).
