

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has officially inaugurated the 300 MW Karnisar Solar Power Plant in Bikaner, Rajasthan, for state-owned energy generator NHPC Limited. Inaugurated virtually on July 4, 2026, the project was developed using around 775,000 domestically manufactured solar PV cells and modules.
The company said the plant is expected to generate about 750 million kWh of electricity annually. NHPC added that the project created direct and indirect employment opportunities for more than 40 local people during its development and supports the country's clean energy and self-reliance goals.
StarlinePS Enterprises that’s in the business of precious stones has approved an investment of INR 160 crore to acquire a 50% stake in Celloraa Energy Private Limited. It will acquire this stake through the subscription of new equity shares, subject to regulatory and shareholder approvals. The investment will be made in one or more tranches over the next 12 months. The investment follows a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed by the two companies on May 14, 2026.
Celloraa, incorporated in February 2026, is setting up a 1.2 GW solar cell manufacturing facility in India using German technology and plans to expand capacity to 2.4 GW. Celloraa has contracted Germany’s centrotherm to provide PECVD system generation from systems and RENA Technologies for inline and batch equipment for wet-processing steps used in the TOPCon cell lines (see Indian TOPCon Cell Manufacturing Backed By European Equipment).
Both centrotherm and RENA are also supplying their equipment to another Indian manufacturer EMMVEE (see EMMVEE Achieves 25.4% TOPCon Solar Cell Efficiency).
PTC India Limited, the Government of India’s power trading business arm, has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with NTPC Renewable Energy Limited (NTPC REL). The wholly owned subsidiary of NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), NTPC REL has secured the PTC agreement for the purchase of 1.2 GW of solar power under a bilateral arrangement. The agreement was signed on July 3, 2026.
Coal India Limited (CIL) has secured a Letter of Award (LoA) from Bundelkhand Saur Urja Limited to develop a 600 MW (2×300 MW) solar power project at the Jalaun Solar Park in Uttar Pradesh. The project will supply power at a tariff of INR 2.73/kWh, with an estimated investment of INR 2,831.11 crore. It is scheduled to be completed within 18 months from the signing of the power purchase agreement (PPA).
Separately, CIL has signed a joint venture (JV) agreement with Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (UPRVUNL) to develop renewable energy projects in the state. The proposed JV, with a 51:49 equity split in favor of CIL, will undertake ground-mounted and floating solar, wind, pumped storage and other renewable energy projects, along with power sales and related business activities. The JV will be incorporated as a private limited company with an initial paid-up capital of INR 10 lakh and an authorized capital of INR 10 crore.
