INOX Solar will build a facility with 4.8 GW capacity each for solar cells and modules in Odisha
The Odisha administration has allocated suitable land at Dhenkanal for the proposed factory
It plans to invest around INR 40 billion to bring the factory online
The State Government of Odisha in India has allocated land in the Dhenkanal region to INOX Solar for its 4.8 GW solar cell and 4.8 GW module manufacturing plant.
To be built for an estimated INR 40 billion ($4.82 billion), the factory is expected to generate more than 3,500 jobs and contribute to the country’s 500 GW non-fossil fuel goal by 2030.
INOX is part of the diversified business group INOXGFL, which has also invested in fluoropolymers, fluorochemicals, battery chemicals, wind turbines and renewables.
In December 2024, INOX announced its solar PV manufacturing ambitions to establish 5 GW solar module and 2.5 GW solar cell production capacity by 2026. It announced Virender Sharma as the company’s new chief technology officer (CTO) to head its solar manufacturing business in March this year (see INOXGFL Group Hires Virender Sharma As Chief Technology Officer).
Land allotment for the project was cleared by Odisha’s High Level Clearance Authority (HLCA), which offers a single window mechanism to provide speedy clearance to investment proposals for the state’s industrial development.
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said, “This investment aligns with our dream of transforming Odisha into a green energy powerhouse. By facilitating the establishment of a solar cell and module manufacturing plant, we are not only promoting sustainable industrial growth but also creating new job opportunities and boosting economic development across the state.”
Speaking of solar PV manufacturing in India, TaiyangNews will host the 2-day TaiyangNews Solar Technology Conference India 2025 in New Delhi on April 10-11, 2025. It will bring together leading names from the Indian solar PV industry, along with technologists and scientists that are helping create a resilient solar manufacturing industry in the country.
