The Minister of Electricity in Iraq, Adel Karim, said that the country is planning to build a 750 MW solar park in the southern part of Al-Muthanna Province.

The government will support Al-Muthanna with large-scale solar project and several smaller power stations to ensure enough electricity supply. Karim had made this statement after his meeting at the office of the Governor earlier.

Last year, French energy company TotalEnergies secured agreements to develop gas and solar PV infrastructure in Iraq after it signed agreements with the Iraqi Ministries of Oil and Electricity and National Investment Commission (see TotalEnergies For 1 GW Solar PV In Iraq)

Also in October 2021, Iraq's Ministry of Oil had entered an agreement with a consortium led by Norwegian renewable energy company Scatec for the Norwegian company to develop a large-scale solar power plant in the country, representing a total of 525 MW capacity (see 525 MW New Solar Project For Iraq)
