Israel Picks Winner Of 300 MW Solar Auction

The 300 MW solar and storage project auctioned in Israel saw the winning bid dropping down compared to the previous 2 rounds to ILS 0.0859 per kWh.

Israel’s infrastructure giant Shikun & Binui will build the country’s largest solar power planned to date with 300 MW capacity, accompanied by 210 MWh energy storage capacity, after it was selected in the tender launched by the Ministry of Energy in January 2020 (see Israel Launches 300 MW Solar Power Tender).

According to local business news platform Globes, the country’s inter-ministerial tenders committee chose the company after it offered the winning bid of NIS 0.0859 ($0.27) per kWh. It beat 26 other local and international contenders for the job (see 27 Companies Line Up For 300 MW Israel PV Project).

For Shikun & Binui, this follows its earlier win of 21.35 MW the company secured in the 609 MW solar and storage auction when the lowest winning bid was determined as NIS 0.1745 per kWh, going lower than NIS 0.199 per kWh in the 1st solar and storage auction (see Israel Awards 609 MW Solar PV Capacity).

The project will be located in Dimona in the Negev Desert. Construction is scheduled to commence in 2022. Israel aims to have renewable energy accounting for 30% of the national energy mix by 2030 (see Israel Approves 30% Renewable Energy Target For 2030).
