Key Takeaways
  • 27 selected bids in Japan’s 26th solar auction totaled 75.35 MW, far below the 163 MW available

  • OCCTO says the average winning tariff was JPY 7.13/kWh, while winning bids ranged from JPY 4.97/kWh to 8.75/kWh

  • The next FY2025 auction round will offer 79 MW for competitive bidding, it announced

Japan has concluded the 26th solar auction, awarding a total of 75.3 MW capacity, completing the 3rd bidding round for FY 2025. This is lower than the 163 MW originally available under this tender.

The Green Investment Promotion Organization (OCCTO) selected 27 winning bids representing 75.35 MW combined capacity. The capacity of the selected projects ranges from 300 kW to 21.7 MW.

Against the ceiling of JPY 8.75/kWh, which was also the highest winning bid in this round, the average weighted winning bid was determined as JPY 7.13/kWh. The lowest winning bid was JPY 4.97/kWh.

In the 25th auction round, OCCTO awarded 114.5 MW for an average weighted tariff of JPY 5.38/kWh, while the 24th round saw 79 MW being selected at an average winning bid of JPY 4.06/kWh. In the 23rd auction, 5 projects representing 93 MW capacity were selected, at an average winning bid of JPY 5.06/kWh (see Japan’s 23rd Solar Auction Selects 5 PV Projects).

The final results of the 26th solar auction are available on OCCTO’s website. The 27th solar auction, 4th bidding round in FY2025, will have a bid volume of 79 MW.
