Japan has awarded 38.2 MW of solar capacity in its 29th solar power bidding round, with all eight submitted bids selected, according to results published by the Organization for Cross-regional Coordination of Transmission Operators (OCCTO).
The latest, 29th auction, was specifically open to feed-in-premium (FIP) solar projects with a capacity of 250 kW or more.
It offered significantly more capacity than the volume ultimately bid. OCCTO had offered 115.4 MW, with a maximum supply price of JPY 9.60/kWh. A total of 13 business plans were submitted for eligibility review. Twelve applications were cleared to participate, while eight bids were ultimately submitted, covering 38.2 MW of capacity. All eight bids were successful.
The weighted average successful bid price was JPY 8.89/kWh. Successful bids ranged from as low as JPY 5.30/kWh to as high as JPY 9.48/kWh. AC12 LLC secured the largest project, with 29.9 MW at JPY 9.48/kWh. Winning prices rose significantly in the latest round (see Japan Allocates Over 89 MW in 28th Solar PV Auction).
Other successful projects ranged from 400 kW to about 2 MW, according to the results announced by OCCTO.
The agency has now set the auction volume for the 30th solar power bidding round, the third auction of fiscal 2026, at 91 MW. It explained that the capacity was set because total bids in the 29th auction were below 91 MW, in line with the applicable bidding rules.
