  • TotalEnergies Renewables and Trung Nam Construction Investment are the individual bidders selected

  • The consortiums include both domestic and international names including ACWA Power, Masdar, Jinko Power, and EDF Renewables

The Kuwait Authority for Partnership Projects (KAPP) has picked 6 consortiums and companies for the 1.1 GW Dibdibah Power and Al-Shagaya Renewable Energy Project Phase 3, Zone 1 package, under the pre-qualifying round.

France’s TotalEnergies Renewables and Vietnam’s Trung Nam Construction Investment have applied as individual companies, as per KAPP’s X account. The consortiums selected are:

  • Alternative Energy Projects Company of Kuwait and Saudi Arabia’s ACWA Power

  • Fouad Alghanim & Sons General Trading of Kuwait and Contracting Company of Kuwait and Abu Dhabi’s Masdar

KAPP had launched the tender for the Al-Dibdibah (earlier referred to as Al-Dabdaba) project earlier this year to be established in the Al-Jahra Governorate (see Kuwait Seeking Bidders For 1.1 GW Solar PV Project).

It will be established on a project area covering 18.1 km². Power generated will be supplied to the national grid under a 30-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Renewable Energy Ministry.

Kuwait targets to achieve 22.1 GW of renewable energy installed capacity by 2030, as announced by the country’s Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy in March 2024.

According to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), its total installed renewable energy capacity at the end of 2023 stood at 114 MW, including close to 50 MW of solar PV.
