Sunvera Solar of Singapore has proposed to develop a 2 GW solar cell manufacturing plant in Kyrgyzstan
The planned facility would manufacture high-efficiency cells and attract foreign investment, according to the government
It adds that this is aligned with its interest in expanding renewable energy manufacturing in the country
Kyrgyzstan has begun discussions with Singapore-based Sunvera Solar Pte. Ltd. on a proposed investment to establish a solar cell manufacturing facility with a planned production capacity of up to 2 GW.
The proposal was discussed during a meeting between the country’s Deputy Minister of Economy and Commerce, Benazir Nurlanova, and representatives of Sunvera Solar earlier this month.
Sunvera has proposed establishing a solar cell factory to manufacture high-efficiency solar cells in the country, and the project is currently under evaluation. The ministry said both sides have agreed to continue assessing implementation conditions and conduct site visits to potential manufacturing locations.
“The company considers this project one of its key international investment initiatives aimed at strengthening industrial cooperation and expanding the global supply chain for solar energy products,” stated the ministry.
According to the company’s website, Sunvera Solar produces n-type high-efficiency solar cells for sale to global PV module manufacturers and developers, offering them a de-risked supply chain.
In a ministry statement, other details of the project with regard to timeline and investment were not disclosed.
“The implementation of such investment initiatives is fully aligned with the priorities of the state policy of the Kyrgyz Republic, which focuses on the development of the green economy, renewable energy, industrial production, as well as increasing foreign direct investment and promoting projects in these strategic areas,” stated the Ministry of Economy and Commerce of the Kyrgyz Republic.
