Key Takeaways
  • Enel Green Power Chile has energized a 205 MW solar power plant in Chile

  • It will operate in the Antofagasta region, alongside the 112 MW Sierra Gorda Wind Farm

  • Together, both projects can generate around 910 GWh of clean energy annually

Enel Green Power Chile, a subsidiary of Enel Chile, has commenced commercial operations of its 205 MW Las Salinas Solar Power Plant in Antofagasta province, to operate alongside the company’s already operational 112 MW Sierra Gorda Wind Farm.

Together, according to Enel Chile, it forms the largest industrial-scale hybrid renewable generation center in the country.

Equipped with 458,044 bifacial solar panels, the Las Salinas project along with the wind farm can generate around 910 GWh annually. This capacity is enough to power more than 415,000 Chilean homes, said the company.

Earlier this month, EDF commissioned what it said was Chile’s largest solar power plant CEME 1 with 480 MW capacity through its joint venture with AME, Generadora Metropolitana (see Latin America Solar PV News Snippets).
