  • Sembcorp in Singapore has acquired a new project to deploy rooftop solar power capacity of 7.9 MW
  • It will be developed for Cache Logistics Trust for its 3 properties namely, Commodity Hub, Pandan Logistics Hub and Changi Districentre 1
  • Of these, Commodity Hub location alone will have 6.2 MW solar power capacity, which according to Sembcorp will make it the largest rooftop solar facility to date when operational
  • Cache will use the power for on-site consumption to reduce its carbon footprint; any excess power will be fed into the grid

Singaporean solar power company Sembcorp Industries has landed itself a project to install a 7.9 MW rooftop solar system for Cache Logistics Trust. It will involve installing more than 20,000 solar panels for 3 of Cache's logistics warehouses.

These 3 locations will be Cache's Commodity Hub, Pandan Logistics Hub and Changi Districentre 1. Of these, Commodity Hub in Penjuru will alone have get 6.2 MW of capacity which, Semcorp says, will make the country's largest rooftop solar facility to date, when completed.

Altogether the 7.9 MW capacity is expected to produce over 9,400 MWh of clean energy annually. The systems are scheduled to come online in mid-2019. Cache will use the power for on-site consumption to reduce its carbon footprint; any excess power will be fed into the grid.

"We are pleased to undertake this green project with Sembcorp which brings about the benefits of not only using under-utilized rooftop space in our warehouses to lessen our conventional energy consumption and operating costs but more importantly, to reduce our carbon footprint," said CEO of ARA Trust Management (Cache) Limited, Daniel Cerf. Adding, "We will continue to review other properties within our portfolio to implement similar energy efficient initiatives in the interest of achieving greater environmental sustainability."

In June 2018, Sembcorp and Kurihara Kogyo won 50 MW rooftop solar power capacity in an auction conducted by Singapore's Housing & Development Board (see Singapore Awards 50 MW Rooftop PV Tender). Sembcorp says it has over 120 MW of solar project capacity in Singapore comprising operational and under development projects. Including China, India and Singapore, the company has 2.6 GW of wind and solar power projects.
