Argentina boosting RE self-consumption: Argentina’s Energy Secretariat has issued Resolution No. 235/24 through which it has increased the maximum limit of renewable energy systems for self-consumption from 2 MW to 12 MW. All homes, buildings, industries, and small and medium enterprises (SME) already using renewable energy for self-consumption can increase the amount of power they generate and inject the surplus into the grid. The resolution categorizes prosumers as individual generators, community generators, and virtual community generators. These are further subdivided into small prosumers with up to 3 kW distributed generation (DG) system, medium prosumers with 3 kW and up to 300 kW DG capacity, and major prosumers using DG systems with a power capacity ranging between 300 kW and up to 12 MW.
“With this decision, the National Government seeks to mitigate the effects of 20 years of disinvestment in the electric transport system, by encouraging the incorporation of more small-scale renewable projects that can be connected to the distribution network,” stated the Energy Secretariat.
BRL 1.1 billion for 402 MW solar: The Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES) has approved a BRL 1.14 billion ($202 million) financing for 2 solar PV power generation projects in the Brazilian states of São Paulo and Ceará. The EDP Group’s Novo Oriente PV Complex, with 254.6 MW capacity sub-divided as 4x40.6 MW and 2x46 MW, has secured BRL 805 million ($143 million) in credit. PowerChina’s 147.33 MW Mauriti located projects have also landed BRL 339 million ($60 million) in BNDES financing. The bank says with these projects, it has reached the milestone of BRL 11.8 billion ($2.1 billion) in financing for PV power plants since its 1st operation in 2017.
43 MW online in Dominican Republic: Global investment and asset manager MPC Capital AG has commissioned a 43 MW solar PV plant, adding it to its existing Monte Plata Solar Park whose operational capacity has now increased to 76 MW. Built for close to $45 million, the Monte Plata II is designed to generate 67 GWh of clean energy annually. The project has secured a 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with a utility offtaker.
WEG & Kroma Energia partner for PV: Brazilian energy trader Kroma Energia has secured the services of EPC company WEG for a 250 MW solar power plant in Brazil. Located in Vale do Jaguaribe, in the municipality of Jaguaruana – CE, the Arapuá Solar Energy Generation Complex is estimated to produce 537 GWh annually on completion in Q1 2026. It is to be built for an estimated BRL 630 million. WEG said the scope of supply includes PV modules, trackers, inverters, a power substation, and a connection bay with the local utility, involving complete engineering and electromechanical assembly.
DAH Solar at Intersolar South America: Chinese solar PV manufacturer DAH Solar exhibited its patented products, including the full-screen PV module 2.0 series, at the recently concluded Intersolar South America 2024. This module features a unique frame-less design to protect it against water and dust, said the company. Its exhibits also comprised the world’s ‘1st’ integrated PV system SolarUnit, and its energy storage products. Through this event, the company said it was able to show the strength of its innovation and market influences to the global visitors.
