RE for Coca-Cola Argentina: Argentina-based renewable energy generator Genneia has entered a strategic alliance with Coca-Cola Argentina to supply the latter with wind and solar energy for its concentrate plant in Buenos Aires and its storage facility in Ezeiza. It will help the global beverages group to replace around 80% of its annual energy consumption. Energy supply will be provided under a 5-year contract through Renewable Energy Term Market (MATER). Coca-Cola says this will support the company’s global strategy to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 and reduce its absolute GHG emissions by 25% by 2030, using 2015 as a reference point.
Dune Plus enters construction: Electricity generation company in Chile, Generadora Metropolitana, has launched construction on Dune Plus, calling it one of the largest energy storage projects in the country. The $629 million facility is a large-scale hybrid project combining a 186 MW solar PV plant, a 333 MW battery energy storage system (BESS) with 4-hour duration, and a 175 MW BESS with 4-hour duration. Together, these will include 406 battery containers, over 297,000 solar panels, and more than 150 transformers. Financed by international banks, the project is under a 15-year contract to supply 1,000 GWh of electricity to mining group Codelco, and to feed the remaining electricity into Chile’s National Electric System.
Walmart Chile signs up for 500 GWh RE: Walmart Chile, part of the American multinational chain, has entered a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Copec subsidiary Copec EMOAC for 500 GWh of renewable energy supply annually. Copec EMOAC will supply this electricity from solar, wind, and storage systems to power Walmart Chile’s Lider, Express de Lider, SuperBodega aCuenta, and Central Mayorista stores, along with its 3 distribution centers and the production plant for doughs and meats. Walmart Chile says the contract will take effect in March 2026, enabling it to cover approximately 80% of its operations in the country with 100% renewable energy.
Maiden CFM solar project online in Colombia: Climate-focused blended finance investment manager Climate Fund Managers (CFM) and Colombian renewable energy developer Erco Energia have announced the inauguration of a 26.4 MW DC/19.9 MW AC fixed-tilt solar PV facility in Northern Colombia. The Pétalo del Norte I Solar Power Plant is the 1st CFM project to reach commercial operations in Latin America and is backed by the European Union. It generates over 45 GWh of clean energy annually. The facility has secured a 15-year PPA with an independent energy trader. Additionally, CFM also announced investing $1.5 million in development funding from Climate Investor One for its 2nd project with 40 MW AC solar and 18 MWh of battery storage. It will be Colombia’s largest solar-plus-storage plant, generating over 95.8 GWh annually.
Iberdrola seeks complete ownership of Neoenergia Brazil: Spanish energy group Iberdrola plans to buy the remaining 16.2% stake in its Brazilian subsidiary Neoenergia, for which it has launched a takeover bid. It already owns an 83.8% stake in Neoenergia that supplies electricity to nearly 40 million customers through 5 distributors in Bahia, Rio Grande do Norte, Pernambuco, Sao Paulo, Mato Grosso do Sul, and Brasilia states. It also operates 3.8 GW of renewable energy capacity and has more than 725,000 km of electricity distribution lines and 8,000 km of transmission lines. The transaction, explains Iberdrola, will simplify Neoenergia’s structure, provide it greater flexibility, and reduce costs from maintaining the trading of shares on the market. “With this transaction, Iberdrola reaffirms its commitment to Brazil and to a growth model based on electricity grids, which account for 90% of Neoenergia's business,” explains Iberdrola.
