JV in Africa: India’s Inox Clean Energy and RJ Corp have launched a joint venture (JV) with a focus on the renewables market in Africa. The duo has acquired SkyPower Services MENA Ltd., through which an initial capacity of 570 MW is planned to be commissioned. This is part of a multi-GW pipeline under the acquisition, supported by sovereign-backed power purchase agreements (PPAs) at attractive tariffs, stated the duo. SkyPower has a pipeline spread across Zambia, Zimbabwe, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Inox says it targets 2.5 GW of installed renewable energy power generation capacity in Africa by FY29. Part of the INOXGFL Group, Inox Clean Energy targets 10 GW of installed IPP capacity and 11 GW of integrated solar manufacturing capacity by FY28.
Solar and storage in Syria: Saudi Arabia’s Al-Herfi Saudi Contracting Company has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Syria’s General Corporation for Electricity Transfer and Distribution for a solar and storage project. The project will have 210 MW AC solar PV capacity, integrated with a 827 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS). Signed in the presence of representatives from the Energy Ministries of Syria and Saudi Arabia, the MoU contributes to Syria’s energy strategy to ensure security and diversification of its electricity system.
PPAs for 255 MW in South Africa: Lyra Energy, the joint venture renewable energy platform of Scatec in South Africa, has signed 3 PPAs for a significant part of its 255 MW Thakadu Solar Power Plant. The offtakers are top-tier commercial and industrial (C&I) players. Scatec will provide EPC, asset management (AM), and operations and maintenance (O&M) services for the project, which is to be built in 2 phases. The initial phase is expected to enter construction in Q1 2026, followed by the 2nd phase. Lyra Energy is Scatec’s JV with Standard Bank and Stanlib.
500 MW solar in Zambia: UAE-based SGC Investment LLC has proposed to develop a 500 MW solar power project in Zambia under the Presidential Constituency Energy Initiative (PCEI). It plans to deploy the capacity across multiple locations in the country to expand electricity access in rural and underserved areas. Zambia is keen to explore the investment as the country’s Minister of Energy, Makozo Chikote, said it will back the national target of achieving 10 GW of new power investments for long-term energy sustainability.
Solar & storage for copper mine in Botswana: Release has signed a 7-year leasing agreement for a 21 MW solar power plant at the Motheo Copper Mine near Ghanzi in Botswana. The agreement with Tshukudu Metals Botswana, which is a subsidiary of Australia-based Sandfire Resources, will provide clean energy to Sandfire’s copper mining operations at Motheo. Release targets commercial operations by the end of 2026, when the project will generate close to 40 GWh annually, covering about 30% of the mine’s annual electricity demand. A Scatec JV with Climate Fund Managers, Release is a flexible leasing agreement of re-deployable solar PV and battery equipment.
