
USP bags IFC support: The International Finance Corporation (IFC) of the World Bank Group, has put its weight behind the upcoming $1.6 billion greenfield polysilicon plant in Oman. With a 100,000 tons per annum production capacity, this Sohar Port Free Zone located facility of United Solar Polysilicon (USP) is currently under construction. The USP project is also backed by ewpartners that announced a strategic investment in the project in December 2024 (see Middle East & Africa Solar PV News Snippets: International Investment Firm Backs Oman Polysilicon Project & More).
International interest in DEWA project: A total of 47 international companies have bid for phase VII of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park (MBR Solar Park), according to the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA). It did not share the names of the companies. The project is scheduled for phased commissioning between 2027 and 2029. It will host a production capacity of over 1.6 GW and 1 GW battery energy storage system (BESS) with capacity to produce 6,000 MWh. Phase VII’s addition is meant to expand MBR Solar Park’s total planned capacity to 7.26 GW (see Dubai’s DEWA Launches MBR Solar Park Phase VII Tender).
2 GW solar PV project: China’s Shanghai Electric Power Generation Group has entered a cooperation agreement with Abu Dhabi’s Masdar for the 2 GW Saidawi Solar PV Project. For Shanghai Electric, it is the company’s largest solar PV EPC project undertaken by the company. The facility is part of round 5 of Saudi Arabia’s National Renewable Energy Program (NREP), they said. On completion, it is expected to generate more than 6,000 billion kWh of electricity to the local areas annually.
