Solar and storage project in Egypt: UAE-based AMEA Power, along with Japan’s Kyuden International Corporation, has announced a 1 GW solar PV plant with a 600 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in Egypt. To be delivered for an estimated project cost of over $700 million, it will be Africa’s largest single-asset renewable energy facility and battery storage project, stressed the company. The International Finance Corporation (IFC) is leading a consortium that has committed around $570 million in financing for the project set to come up in Aswan Governorate. AMEA Power and Kyuden will own the facility 60:40. Once commissioned in June 2026, it will deliver over 3 million MWh of clean electricity annually. In July 2025, AMEA Power commissioned the country’s maiden utility-scale BESS facility with 300 MWh capacity, fully powered by the company’s own 500 MW solar project in the Aswan Governorate.

Botswana’s RE deal with KP Group: India-based KP Group has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Government of Botswana to develop large-scale renewable energy and power infrastructure in the country. They expect this will increase Botswana’s renewable energy capacity to nearly 5 GW. The collaboration will comprise upgrading and constructing high-voltage transmission lines within the country and strengthening interconnections with neighboring countries. These projects will require nearly $4 billion in capital investment.

120 MW solar project in Tunisia: AMEA Power has announced the commissioning of its 120 MW DC/100 MW AC Kairouan Solar Project in Tunisia. This is the country’s maiden solar power plant to have come online under the concessional regime. It is located in the Kairouan Governorate. Financed by the IFC and African Development Bank (AfDB), the facility is expected to generate close to 222 GWh of clean electricity annually.

19.3 MW solar project in Namibia: Solarcentury Africa has commissioned its 19.3 MW Gerus Solar PV Plant in Namibia, calling it the second purpose-built merchant solar plant in Africa to trade electricity on the Southern African Power Pool (SAPP) and the first such project in Namibia. Its 25 MW Mailo Solar Plant in Zambia was the first such plant. The Gerus Solar Plant was developed in partnership with Sino Energy. Solarcentury Africa owns the Gerus project that’s funded by its parent company, BB Energy.

288 MW facility in Azerbaijan: UK’s INTEC Energy Solutions has secured a $117 million EPC and two-year O&M contract for the 288 MW Shafag Solar Project in Azerbaijan from Shafag (Jabrayil) Solar Limited. The company has completed site mobilization and is progressing with earthworks, internal roads, ramming, and material deliveries. INTEC said the project marks an important milestone for its regional expansion and long-term cooperation in Azerbaijan.

Saudi Arabia order for GameChange Solar: GameChange Solar has secured an order to supply its Genius Tracker 1P system for the Khulis Solar PV independent power project in Saudi Arabia, developed by ACWA Power. The project is being executed by an EPC joint venture of CEEC, GPEC, and NWEPDI. It will use trackers designed for harsh climatic conditions. Construction on the site is set to begin in December 2025, with commissioning planned for November 2027.

Partnership for Egypt project: Norway’s Scatec has signed shareholder agreements with Norwegian investment fund for developing nations, Norfund, and EDF power solutions, for an equity partnership in its 1.1 GW solar and 100 MW/200 MWh battery storage Obelisk project in Egypt. On completion of the transaction, Norfund will hold 25% of the project holding company, while EDF power solutions will own 20% of the operating company, with Scatec retaining economic control. The Obelisk project is Scatec’s largest to enter construction to date and supports Egypt’s growing power demand and energy transition, it stated.
