Invenergy to build 250 MW project: Invenergy has been contracted by the Northern Indiana Public Service Company (NIPSCO) to develop a 250 MW solar power project on build & transfer basis. The Fairbanks Solar Project will come up in Sullivan County, Indiana, US. Invenergy said it will construct the project, and NIPSCO will enter into a joint venture on construction completion. For NIPSCO, the addition of the project to its current portfolio of natural gas and hydroelectric generation is part of its strategy to go coal-free by 2028.

61 MW solar project for Apple data center: The Renewable Energy and Storage group of McCarthy Building Companies has completed construction of a 61 MW DC/50 MW AC solar farm in Washoe County of Nevada, US, to provide clean energy for Apple’s data center. The Turquoise Solar Project in Reno Technology Park is owned by Greenbacker Renewable Energy Company, and Cypress Creek Renewables will provide O&M services.

Massachusetts climate change bill: The Massachusetts Climate Bill titled ‘An Act Creating A Roadmap for the Next Generation of Climate Policy’ has been passed by the Massachusetts House of Representatives. Among the salient features of this bill include tax certainty for solar projects. The Senior Director of State Policy for the East at the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA), David Gahl explained that this means ‘homeowners and small businesses that install solar systems won’t see property tax increases. Larger solar systems that already have an agreement in place for tax payments will also be exempt from additional taxes’. He added, “Solar developers and customers need to know the rules of the road, and this legislation clears up a loophole that could essentially double tax renewable energy customers.” The bill now needs the governor’s nod.

200 MW AC solar portfolio in Georgia: The US solar platform for Royal Dutch Shell, Silicon Ranch and renewable energy provider for 38 Georgia Electric Membership Corporations (EMC), Green Power EMC have completed a 200 MW AC solar portfolio comprising 3 utility scale solar projects (40 MW AC, 74 MW AC and 86 MW AC) in Southern Georgia, US. Developed, funded and built by Silicon Ranch, the independent solar power producer owns and operates the facilities. Green Power EMC will be procuring this power for 30 years for its member EMCs.
