  • The government has declared the planned facility to be a strategic investment project

The Government of North Macedonia has announced France’s Akuo Energy to build a large scale solar power plant in the country with between 350 MW to 400 MW installed capacity. Authorities have accorded the planned facility a strategic investment project.

Akuo Energy will invest €270 million on constructing and commissioning the solar power project dubbed Solar Park Stipion. The facility will be built by the French company in collaboration with a local company called Ostro Solar from Skopje.

In June 2021, under the former Prime Minister Zoran Zaev, North Macedonia said it will invest €8.2 billion as part of its Intervention Investment Plan (2021-2027) on some industries, including energy to support the implementation of projects with highest interest for the citizens. Back then Zaev mentioned a large scale PV project with 300 MW to 350 MW capacity being planned for Stip (see North Macedonia: €3 Billion+Investment In Energy Sector).
