As solar continues its winning streak in joint wind and solar auctions in Germany, the average winning price went up again from the previous auction.

  • Joint German solar and wind power tender once again awarded entire capacity on offer to solar that won 210.84 MW
  • Winning bids ranged between €0.0450 to €0.0610 per kWh for the tender that was oversubscribed with 719.59 MW of total bids received
  • Next joint auction is scheduled to be held in June 2019 with 150 MW, followed by another joint auction in November 2019 with 200 MW

Solar PV technology has once again beaten wind power in a German joint tender for the 2 technologies and winning more than what was supposed to be awarded. The tendered amount of 200 MW in the joint wind and solar tender, was oversubscribed nearly 4 times. Tte Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur) received 109 bids with up to 719.59 MW – all for solar power plants.

The agency finally awarded 210.84 MW to 18 bids. The capacity will come up in:

  • Saxony-Anhalt (59 MW),
  • Brandenburg (59 MW),
  • Schleswig-Holstein (48 MW),
  • Hesse (10 MW) and
  • Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (33 MW).

At least 18 bids with 58 MW capacity had to be excluded due to errors. Winning bidders can deposit guarantees by May 8, 2019 post which the final list of winners will be announced.

Winning bids ranged from €0.0450 to €0.0610 per kWh; the average winning bid was €0.0566 per kWh, increasing over the average of the previous joint tender concluded in November 2018 with €0.0527 ($0.066) per kWh, when the agency awarded all 201 MW to solar. Winning bids back then ranged from €0.0465 to €0.0579 ($0.053 to $0.066) per kWh (see PV Beats Wind To Win All In German Auction, Again!).

Even earlier in April 2018, during the first joint wind and solar auction, solar won all 210 MW with an average winning bid of €0.0467 ($0.058) per kWh (see All For Solar, None For Wind In German Tender).

The next technology specific tender for solar PV will be launched on June 1, 2019.
