Poland has announced the dates for the next round of solar PV and wind energy auctions to be held in the Eastern European country. As per Polish independent research group Institute for Renewable Energy (IEO), the auction for projects above 1 MW capacity will be held on December 5, 2019, and for projects below 1 MW will be conducted five days later on December 10, 2019.
Winners will be decided on the basis of lowest bids offered, as per the terms of the auction stipulated by the National Energy Regulator URE. Another condition for participation is for projects to already hold grid connection and building permits in place.
During the December 5 auction, 2.5 GW capacity will be up for grabs for onshore wind and solar PV technologies. In 2020, the market expects as much as 1 GW of capacity auctioned for wind and PV projects of over 1 MW capacity, as per the draft regulation of the Ministry of Energy, said IEO.
Since 2016 there have been three renewable energy auctions annually in Poland that awarded around 900 MW of total capacity.
The IEO expects new PV additions in 2019 to grow up to 1 GW, taking the cumulative capacity of solar in Poland to 1.5 GW (see Poland To Add 1 GW PV In 2019).
