RP Global To Develop 1 GW Solar & Wind In Poland

RP Global, an Austria based independent power producer (IPP), aims to develop over 1 GW of solar PV and wind energy capacity in Poland in a renewed focus on the Eastern European country. It has been in Poland for over 15 years, having already built 5 wind farms. The 'newly booming PV market' of Poland is where it is well positioned to invest.

It is working on a pipeline of projects to be delivered in the next 2 to 4 years with the initial projects to be commissioned by mid-2022. This includes 5 solar PV parks, each having close to 180 MW capacity, located in different regions of Poland.

Management has also hired a new resource to head the project development in Poland, former EPA Wind and utility manager Wojciech Glocko.

"The opening up of the Polish government for low cost, environmentally friendly technologies, providing highly competitive LCOE, makes for an attractive market, even if Poland may not be the first country that comes to mind when thinking of attractive solar radiation," said RP Global's CEO Gerhard Matzinger.

With interests in hydro, wind and solar PV technologies, RP Global is a founding partner of Enery and PPA advisory Pexapark.

Recently, Poland approved its energy policy until 2040 carving a bigger role for solar PV alongside wind even though coal stays and nuclear is anticipated to make an entry under the plans (see Poland Approves Energy Policy Until 2040).
