  • Serbia has announced the winning consortium of its 1 GW AC July 2023 solar tender
  • According to local media reports, the government has selected Hyundai Engineering and UGT Renewables
  • They will be required to bring this capacity online, along with storage projects, on a turnkey basis for EPS

The Government of Serbia has selected the consortium of Hyundai Engineering Co., Hyundai Engineering America and UGT Renewables as the winner of its utility-scale solar and storage auction to build 1 GW PV capacity in the country.

Local media refers to a government decision to report that the 5 ground mounted large-scale solar power plants that this capacity entails will be developed and transferred to state-utility Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS).

As the strategic partner, the consortium is expected to recommend suitable locations and the number of projects to distribute the capacity. It will need to bring the facilities online on a turnkey basis by June 1, 2028, as per the terms of the tender.

Storage projects with a total of at least 200 MW/400 MWh will also be spread across various important locations within the Serbian electricity system.

The Serbian Ministry of Mining and Energy had launched the competitive solicitation process for the 1.2 GW DC/1.00 GW AC solar utility-scale solar and storage capacity in July 2023 (see Serbia Seeking Strategic Partner For 1 GW Solar).

In August 2021, UGT Renewables had signed a cooperation agreement with the Serbian Energy Ministry for 1 GW solar capacity (see American Company To Build 1 GW Solar Capacity In Serbia).
