Serbian town of Velika Plana now hosts the country's maiden solar panel manufacturing line, according to Italian solar PV manufacturing equipment maker Ecoprogetti that has supplied a 150 MW/year production line to Serbia's DoMi Eko Solar.
Ecoprogetti's production line for DoMi Eko can roll out solar modules with 120 and 144 half-cut M10 cells with an 11-busbar configuration. The modules will have a power rating ranging between 450 W and 550 W. It added that the modules are PID, and salt and ammonia resistant.
The production line can assemble and test up to 25 solar panels/hour.
"Focused predominantly on the local market, Domi Eko's factory is set to become a reference point in Serbia's green energy sector, enhancing the country's PV capacity, which stood at only 29 MW at the end of 2020," stated the Italian company.
The demand for solar is set to grow in Serbia as it targets to expand its solar PV capacity to 8.3 GW by 2024 under the proposed economic reforms, up from 137 MW at the end of 2022, according to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).
To get there fast, it is organizing GW-scale renewable energy auctions. In the latest solar PV auction concluded, the government selected a consortium of Hyundai Engineering and UGT Renewables to build 1 GW AC PV capacity (see Serbia Picks Winners Of 1 GW Solar Power Auction).
