The national utility of Malaysia, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), has formally awarded a contract to develop a 30 MW PV capacity in the country to Redsol Sdn. Bhd., a special purpose company formed by Fumase (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. And Scatec Solar Malaysia B.V.

The two parent companies had won this capacity in a competitive auction conducted by the Malaysian Energy Commissioned in Q1/2017. Redsol will design, construct, own, operate and maintain the 30 MW PV project in Mukim Beriah, Daerah Kerian, Perak.

The project needs to enter commercial operation by December 31, 2019. The PPA entered between TNB and Redsol will be effective for a period of 21 years.

TNB is on a PPA signing spree with the winners of the large scale solar PV capacity awarded last year. Recently, it signed PPAs for 210 MW PV capacity auctioned (see Malaysian Utility Signs PPAs For 210 MW).

Before that, it signed PPAs for 59.91 MW capacity with two SPV companies, of which one, TNB Bukit Selambau Solar Sdn. Bhd., has been formed by TNB itself. Commercial operation date for both these projects of 30 MW and 29.91 MW capacity is Dec. 31, 2020 and Feb. 3, 2020, respectively
