United Kingdom To Launch CfD Allocation Round 7 In August 2025
Key Takeaways
  • The UK government has released an indicative timeline for both offshore and onshore renewable energy technologies

  • Excluded generators can reapply under new notice if previous CfDs were lapsed or terminated

  • It awarded over 9 GW capacity in the previous round including 3.3 GW of solar PV projects

The United Kingdom (UK) plans to hold its Allocation Round 7 (AR7) under the Contracts for Difference (CfD) scheme in August 2025 for non-offshore wind technologies. Winners for this round will be announced in late 2025 or early 2026.

This time around, the government has published a separate indicative timeline for offshore wind and non-offshore wind technologies, however there isn’t much difference since the application window for both the segments will run between August 7 to August 27.

This arrangement will enable the administration to confirm results ‘as soon as possible’, stated the government.

Additionally, it has also published an Exemptions Request Notice for AR7 for excluded generators to follow if they wish to participate in this round. Excluded generators are those who couldn’t participate in the previous rounds owing to the eligible generators allowing the offer of a CfD to lapse or if a CfD was entered into and terminated in certain circumstances.

AR6, the previous CfD auction round concluded in September 2024 selected 131 new projects with offshore wind leading. Solar PV projects worth 3.3 GW capacity were selected out of over 9 GW total winning capacity (see United Kingdom Selects Over 9.6 GW RE Capacity For Allocation Round 6).
