Vattenfall has commissioned Germany’s largest agrivoltaic farm with 76 MW installed capacity
Spanning 93 hectares across 3 areas, the farm will support crop rotation, animal husbandry-related activities, and future mobile chicken coops
A 10-year PPA with PASM, a Deutsche Telekom AG subsidiary, will take care of 100% of the generation on-site
Sweden-based European energy group Vattenfall has announced commercial operations for a 76 MW agrivoltaic installation in Germany, calling it the country’s largest ground-mounted solar project.
Vattenfall had announced this subsidy-free project in February 2023 in Germany’s Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania region (see Swedish Company’s 76 MW Agrivoltaic Project In Germany).
The Tützpatz agrivoltaic farm (also referred to as agri-PV or agrosolar) covers a total area of 93 hectares and has been installed in 3 sub-areas. Installed on trackers, the rows of modules have enough space between them for agricultural machinery to pass.
Activities on the site would include animal husbandry and arable farming, with future plans for raising chickens in mobile barns in designated areas. Vattenfall says a total of 6 mobile chicken coops, each with up to 2,500 birds, are being planned.
Arable farming with different crop rotations will be carried out in the future, said Vattenfall, which plans to undertake more agrivoltaic projects.
The company has secured a 100% long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) for this project with Power and Air Condition Solution Management GmbH (PASM). Electricity supply from the project over 10 years will be enough to cover the annual demand for around 4,600 mobile phone sites. PASM is a subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom AG.
“The electricity supply contract with the Tützpatz solar park combines ecological responsibility with clear economic rationality. It is a future-proof model that ensures cost stability for energy, increases space efficiency and makes a significant contribution to achieving climate neutrality in the Deutsche Telekom AG Group's own operations,” said PASM Managing Director Bernd Schulte-Sprenger.
