Mauritius: 140 MW RE & Storage Tender

The Central Electricity Board (CEB) of Mauritius, operating under the country’s Ministry of Energy and Public Utilities, has launched 2 procurement calls for renewable energy from a combined 140 MW capacity in the form of request for proposals (RFP).

For 100 MW tender with reference number OAB-RESP-22-0811, it seeks to source power from hybrid facilities comprising solar PV and battery storage capacity. The specific capacity of storage was not mentioned. Interested bidders need submit their proposals by June 22, 2022.

The 40 MW tender with reference number OAB-RESP-22-0812 relates to procurement of power from small scale renewable energy hybrid facilities. Last date to submit bids for this one is June 15, 2022.

According to the Energy Ministry, Mauritius aims to grow the share of renewable energy in its electricity mix by 2025 to 35%, and increase it to 60% by 2030. As per the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), its combined renewable energy capacity at the end of 2020 was 252 MW, with solar PV contributing around 83 MW.
