  • NEDO alone has provided ¥3.4 billion ($30.8 million) out of the total budget of ¥3.9 billion ($35.3 million) for the project

A demonstration microgrid power system using PV power and several diesel generators has been commissioned in India. It will supply power to Mikuni India Private Limited in the Neemrana Industrial Park of Rajasthan. This is part of the Japan-India Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) project.

With this demonstration, Japan wants to verify the effectiveness of Japanese microgrid control technology in providing reliable power supply and encourage its dissemination across India. A 5 MW solar power generation facility has been installed in the industrial park using Japanese modules since 2015 to test if the PV panels can cope with the Indian climate.

The microgrid systems should enable reliable power supply by combining and controlling a 1 MW PV power generating system in combination with diesel power generators. The project is developed by New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO), Japan's Hitachi Ltd., Hitachi Systems, Ltd., ITOCHU Corporation in cooperation with the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor Development Corporation Ltd. (DMICDC).

A Government of Japan entity for the development of new energy technologies, NEDO has provided ¥3.4 billion ($30.8 million) out of the total budget of ¥3.9 billion ($35.3 million). The demonstration project period is two years.
