Nepal LOI For 25 MW Project

• The Nepal Electricity Authority has issued letter of invitation to seek services of consultant for implementing Grid Solar and Energy Efficiency project
• The 25 MW project enjoys support from the Asian Development Bank (ADB)
• The LOI is issued for six shortlisted contenders that are from India, China, Korea and France
• Winning consultant will prepare Distribution Loss Reduction Master Plan

The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) is seeking the services of a consultant to help it implement a 25 MW project that enjoys support from the Asian Development Bank (ADB). It has issued letter of invitation for the six shortlisted contenders. 

 The task for the winning party from this list includes preparation of a Distribution Loss Reduction Master Plan. The consultant will also be required to provide Design, Supervision and Monitoring of Loss Reduction Activities. The winning party will help the NEA implement the Grid Solar and Energy Efficiency Project for which it has received financing from the World Bank Group*s International Development Association (IDA).

 Under the Grid Solar and Energy Efficiency Project, the government is focusing on increasing solar PV generated electricity to the grid, and reduce the NEA's distribution losses in selected distribution centres.

 The shortlisted consultants include a JV between Af-Mercados Emi and Tata Power of India, EDF-SA of France, ESB International of Ireland, Korea Electric Power Company, Price Waterhouse Cooper from India and Zhejian Huayun Electric Power Engineering, Design and Construction Ltd., of China.

Nepal had received $20 million in financing to support the development of 25 MW solar power capacity back in December 2016 (see ADB Grant For Utility PV In Nepal). This grant was to be used as funding for private sector companies to help them cover their capital costs for infrastructure projects. Nepal was expected to start the bidding process in Q1/2017 and complete it within six to 12 months.
