Global energy giant bp p.l.c. has announced the appointment of a new Executive Vice President, Gas and Low Carbon Energy business in the form of Anja-Isabel Dotzenrath. She comes to bp from Germany's RWE Renewables that till now she headed as its CEO.
She will replace Dev Sanyal who quit the company after working with bp for 32 years in various positions. Sanyal has moved on to join oil refiner Varo Energy as its CEO. He will leave the company at the end of 2021, while Dotzenrath will join on March 1, 2022.
Dotzenrath comes to bp with 25 years of senior experience in various industries, among others involved in the integration of E.ON and Innogy's business into RWE to form RWE Renewables. Before that she led E.ON's Climate and Renewables business.
Her appointment comes as bp has accumulated a 21 GW renewables development pipeline globally and had 3.7 GW of renewables capacity at the end of H1/2021. While the company is invested in solar PV through its joint venture Lightsource bp, the oil major has entered offshore wind in both the US and UK. By 2025, the company aims to expand its low carbon energy portfolio to 20 GW net of renewables assets, expanding the same to 50 GW by 2030 (see BP: 50 GW Renewable Generating Capacity By 2030).
Sharing her thoughts at joining bp with its 'global reach, ambitious low carbon growth targets and vision for a net zero future', Dotzenrath said, "By integrating gas, renewables, hydrogen and biofuels at scale we can build a world-leading business in low carbon."
