New Hybrid Inverter From Israeli Smart Energy Technology Solution Provider

SolarEdge Displays Its Upcoming SiC Switch-Based Hybrid Inverter Model At Intersolar Europe 2024

  • SolarEdge unveil a brand new 3-phase hybrid inverter of up to 20 kW capacity
  • The brand new inverter is expected to be made with SiC based power module
  • This new inverter is expected to be commercially available in middle of middle of 2025

On the 1st day of the Intersolar Europe 2024 event, the renowned Israeli inverter maker SolarEdge launched its upcoming high-capacity 3-phase hybrid inverter of up to 20 kW capacity with full home backup applications.

The company says there needs to be a cost-effective lighter and smaller size product to balance the growing demand for Europe’s larger residential solar + storage rooftop application and increase the efficiency of inverters. In response, SolarEdge has come up with its latest solar + storage hybrid inverter model of up to 20 kW capacity with a dedicated modular battery platform suitable for the large European residential market.

The company is keeping its faith in the inherent characteristics of silicon carbide (SiC) made power modules that have the potential to significantly decrease the size and weight of the new inverter per kW, while boosting efficiencies and power density to achieve the highest efficiency compared to its peers in the market. The advantageous characteristics of SiC-based power devices are low resistance, low leakage, high Tj, operation at > 200˚C, reduced cooling requirements, higher switching frequency, and lower losses.

The new hybrid inverter model with a cost-effective unique feature will generate additional power at higher peak efficiency but will optimize the efficiency in the self-consumption mode of low-load battery discharging scenario, explained SolarEdge. In addition to improvement in efficiency and power generation, the new model will also be compatible with SolarEdge’s Home wireless network for remote monitoring and analysis. By utilizing the SolarEdge ONE energy optimization system, the new model will be able to optimize its charging cost according to the available Time of Use (ToU) or dynamic energy tariffs.

Chief Product Officer at SolarEdge, Ido Ginodi said, “Our next generation residential offering will be optimized to meet the trend in European markets for larger PV and storage systems. Coupled with our advanced energy management software capabilities we believe we are strongly positioned to offer a differentiated solution in this segment.”

This new high-capacity 3-phase hybrid inverter model is expected to be available in the second half of 2025, confirms SolarEdge. All the interested visitors can experience SolarEdge’s latest offerings at booth no. B4.110.
