CEP Renewables and partners commission 17 MW solar plant by repurposing brownfield site; CleanCapital acquires 35 MW PV in New Jersey; Amp Solar offloads Amp US; ComEd to double community solar projects in portfolio by 2023-end.
Contaminated brownfield now a 17 MW solar project: CEP Renewables, CS Energy and NJR Clean Energy Ventures (CEV) have established a 17 MW solar power plant in Holland, New Jersey, thus converting a ‘former contaminated brownfield’ into a clean power generation site. The site earlier housed a paper mill complex that was abandoned in the 1990s. It has now been repurposed with the solar power plant that was built in 2 phases. The trio also energized a 25.6 MW DC landfill solar project in New Jersey in December 2022 calling it the largest landfill PV project in North America (see North America PV News Snippets).
CleanCapital buys 35 MW solar in New Jersey: New York, US based CleanCapital has acquired 34.5 MW portfolio of operational solar assets in New Jersey. The projects have been catering to various commercial and industrial (C&I) offtakers including Six Flags theme park, a manufacturing facility, the CentraState medical system, and the Borough of Carlstadt, according to CleanCapital. The 4 projects that make up this capacity came online in 2019 and range from 1.6 MW to 23.4 MW. The company now has invested in more than 400 MW clean energy projects.
Canada’s Amp Solar sells Amp US: Amp Solar Group of Canada has sold 100% stake in its US subsidiary Amp US Primary Holdings to a consortium comprising funds managed by Fiera Infrastructure and Palisade Infrastructure. Amp US goes out of Amp stable with its operational or under construction projects with a total generation capacity of close to 200 MW DC.
ComEd’s 75th community solar project online: Illinois, US based electricity utility Commonwealth Edison (ComEd) has announced energizing a community solar project with Summit Ridge Energy with 2.495 MW. Opening of the Speedway Solar Project makes it the 75th community solar plant to have come online in ComEd’s service territory, it stated. The project with more than 2,300 solar panels will provide access to solar energy via ComEd grid to customers with no roof space or finances to install a solar energy system on their property. The utility targets to double the number of community solar projects on its grid to more than 150 to serve around 36,000 customers, by the end of 2023. According to ComEd, solar power on its grid, including rooftop and community solar systems, will grow five times from almost 650 MW today to about 3.3 GW by 2030.
