  • Ohio Power Siting Board has approved 577 MW and 150 MW solar projects in the state
  • Southwire wants to source RECs from Constellation’s Rayos del Sol Solar Project in Texas, which allows for the expansion of the facility by 72 MW
  • Starwood Energy has purchased 150 MW solar project in Texas with 25 MW battery capacity with CIT’s $68.4 million financing
  • PowerFlex has commissioned an integrated onsite rooftop solar, carport and battery storage facility for Cox Communications

577 MW solar project in Ohio approved: The Ohio Power Siting Board (OPSB) has approved 2 solar power projects to come up in the state, one with 577 MW capacity and the other 150 MW big. Local media reports suggest the 577 MW Fox Squirrel Solar Project will be located in Oak Run, Pleasant and Range Townships in Madison County. Project developers expect the facility to be grid connected by the end of 2022. This project is part of the Geenex Solar Development pipeline owned by EDF Renewables (see EDF To Build 4.5 GW PV In US With Geenex).

Powell Creek Solar, owned by Iberdrola’s Avangrid Renewables, will build the 150 MW Powell Creek Solar Project in Putnam County of Ohio.

72 MW expansion for Texas solar project: Manufacturer of wire and cables Southwire has entered into a 9-year renewable energy certificate (REC) purchase agreement to match close to 33% of its annual electricity use with RECs sourced from the Rayos del Sol Solar Project in Cameron County, Texas in the US. This REC agreement allows for the expansion of the project capacity by 72 MW. Rayos del Sol project is owned by 174 Power Global and TotalEnergies, both of whom have an agreement with energy utility Constellation to supply power and projects-specific REC from the facility for 108 MW capacity to be further supplied by the latter to 3 commercial customers. With the entry of Southwire, the facility now needs an expansion of 72 MW which will assume commercial operations by April 2022.

Starwood Energy acquired 150 MW solar farm: With help from a $68.4 million financing from CIT Group Inc., private investment firm Starwood Energy Group Global LLC has acquired 150 MW Crane Solar Farm from Consolidated Edison Development Inc. The project in Crane County of Texas also has a 25 MW battery storage capacity. Power generated by Crane Solar Project is fully contracted through an 11-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Vistra Corporation. The facility is currently operational and has close to 11 years of contract life remaining, stated CIT that served as a lead arranger for the financing through its Power and Energy business.

Solar storage project online in San Diego: EDF Renewables North America has commissioned a solar PV and battery energy storage project for Cox Communications’ corporate office in San Diego. The integrated onsite battery storage, carport and rooftop solar installation— built and serviced by the company’s PowerFlex subsidiary—it will generate close to 20% of the building’s energy usage, and reduce its energy costs. PowerFlex recently expanded its offerings to include onsite solar (see North America PV Snippets: LONGi, Sunlight, PowerFlex).
