The National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) has called for tenders to develop 50 MW of solar PV power project in the state of Tamil Nadu. On April 5, 2016, the state-owned utility company made available documents for the project, which will be built in the Salem region of the southern state of India.

The project is to be developed for NTPC-SAIL Power Company Limited (NSPCL), a joint venture of NTPC with the Steel Authority of India (SAIL). The project will be set up in the vicinity of Salem Steel Plant.

To be awarded under the open category, the project will require design, engineering, manufacturing, supply, installation, commissioning and other related jobs. The winning bidder will need to provide comprehensive operation and maintenance of the plant for five years from the date of successful completion of trial run. The project is part of the non-domestic content requirement category.

The tender is expected to interest only big developers as it requires developers to have a turnover of at least 2.45 billion INR (around $367 million).

The last date to receive bids is June 3, 2016.
