- OMV Petrom has launched a call for interested EPCC companies for 710 MW solar capacity in Romania
- The THEIA Project will need to be established in Băbăița commune in the form of 3 sub-projects

OMV Petrom, the Romanian oil and gas producer, has opened a call to select Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Commissioning (EPCC) companies to build its 710 MW solar PV capacity in the country.
The 710 MW THEIA Project, as it is dubbed, will need to be established in Romania’s Băbăița commune. It will be realized in 3 lots of 242 MW, 219 MW and 247 MW capacities, respectively. Additionally, the scope of work includes building transmission infrastructure.
All the 3 sub-projects will be located in Merișani and Băbăița villages in the central Teleorman County. The winners will also be required to offer operation and maintenance (O&M) services for the sub-projects.
Bidding for several lots is allowed if the technical and financial requirements are met. Development and construction of all the lots will need to be carried out in parallel, according to OMV.
Interested companies will be able to indicate their interest by sending in a letter of intent (LOI). Shortlisted companies in this tender round will move to the next one.
OMV will accept letters of interest to the tender call till April 18, 2024. The details of the tender are available on OMV’s website.
The company had acquired this 710 MW capacity with grid-connection access from the Danish developer Jantzen Renewables in 2023. With OMV of Austria as its majority stakeholder and the Romanian Energy Ministry a minority owner, OMV aims to grow its installed renewable energy capacity to 1 GW by 2030 (see 710 MW Solar Projects Deal In Romania).
