Background:
India is witnessing an unprecedented solar boom, poised to become a global powerhouse in both solar demand and supply. Government leadership with a long-term solar mission & vision have enabled the creation of a domestic manufacturing sector that will drive the country's solar transformation. The country is not only on track to exceed 20 GW of newly installed solar capacity in calendar year 2024 for the first time, many Indian manufacturers are quickly expanding their capacities to cater to both domestic and international markets.
This surge in India's solar industry occurs amidst a global landscape marked by unprecedented overproduction and price declines for which no sudden end is in sight. While this poses huge challenges to manufacturers, it fires up demand. Solar's very competitive cost and record low prices combined with solar energy's largely untapped potential, its resilience against geopolitical tensions and its versatile nature to address energy security concerns will ensure its continued global growth in the long run. However, obstacles not only remain but are flaring up as a consequence of solar's rapid success story, as mature markets increasingly face energy system flexibility issues, among others. In the mid-term, leading energy organizations expect renewables to fall short of tripling its capacities by 2030, a target agreed at COP 28.
The PVLS.I 2024 will be held under Chatham House rules to foster networking, open dialogue and knowledge. Participants will be Indian solar executives from the country's top manufacturers and solar experts from solar associations, consulting, market research and financing.
