A new energy services company headquartered in Spain calling itself One Solar has announced renewable energy industry veteran Ben Hill as its partner. Hill also happens to be the company’s co-founder.

The new company was launched in mid-2020 in Spain where it is advising project developers while also optimizing projects by reviewing technology and design to reduce their LCOE, manage EPC procurement processes as well as purchasing equipment for asset production and carrying out integrated development management for developers, including hybrid systems.

One Solar also provides energy consultancy for large electricity consumers offering them solutions to contract renewable energy with storage or go in for self-power consumption. The company counts its client portfolio as ranging from manufacturers of components for the renewable sector to developers of generation projects and independent energy producers.

In a career spanning over 30 years, Hill has worked with some of the leading companies in energy and storage space including BP Solar and Trina Solar. He left Trina Solar as its president of Europe region in October 2015 (see Ben Hill Leaves Trina). He was also the vice president of Tesla Europe, establishing the US car and battery maker’s European team and kickstarting its solar storage activities, in one of his previous assignments.

Hill has been supporting new businesses and supporting existing businesses to develop, invest and build solar energy storage and battery systems after leaving Tesla. “There are clear gaps in knowledge and capability along the value chain in how to get maximum value from technical and financial solutions, which One Solar is now successfully addressing,” explained Hill. “As an example, we are designing and modelling a number of PV/Battery hybrid plants in the UK to offset the all-too-common curtailment issues and improve plant IRR. These types of Hybrid systems, we have brought to Spanish and Italian clients also.”
