The Canadian Renewable Energy Association (CanREA) has picked its new President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) as Vittoria Bellissimo who will replace outgoing boss Robert Hornung from October 31, 2022 as he retires.
Bellissimo comes to CanREA with decades of experience in public and private energy sector. Till recently she was working as the executive director of the Industrial Power Consumers Association of Alberta where she was employed for over 10 years. Prior to that, she worked in renewable energy procurement at both the Ontario Ministry of Energy and the Ontario Power Authority.
"Wind energy and solar energy are Canada's lowest-cost sources of new electricity generation and, coupled with energy storage, will be critical to Canada's efforts to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050," said CanREA's Chair of the Board of Directors Jason Chee-Aloy. "We are pleased that Vittoria will continue CanREA's work to enable Canada to capitalize on its massive untapped renewable energy potential."
Hornung led the 300+ member organization CanREA since July 2020 as its founding president and CEO when the association was formed by unifying Canadian Solar Industries Association (CanSIA) and Canadian Wind Energy Association (CanWEA) (see Canada Gets Renewable Energy Association).
