Perovskite solar technology company Wuxi UtmoLight of China has brought on board Mohammad Khaja Nazeeruddin as its full-time chief scientist. He was till now a professor at Switzerland's Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL).
Nazeeruddin has been employed as the chief scientist of UtmoLight since November 2019, dividing his time between his duties at EPFL and UtmoLight. Now he takes over the position full time. He will move base to Wuxi to lead the company's R&D team.
A Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and an academician of the European Academy of Sciences, Nazeeruddin is one of the top 10 scientists in the field of perovskite, said UtmoLight. The company also calls him a 'world record holder' for efficiency of small-scale perovskite modules.
"The full-time joining of Academician Nazeeruddin will further promote the in-depth integration between the world's top perovskite scientific theories and the most advanced perovskite mass production technology, and accelerate the industrialization process of electro-optical perovskite technology," said UtmoLight Co-Founder and President Yu Zhenrui.
UtmoLight operates a 150 MW perovskite solar module production line in China and is constructing what it says will be the world's 1st GW-scale perovskite PV production line. The facility in Xishan Economic and Technological Development Zone will also host a 100-ton perovskite quantum dot production line and a R&D innovation center to reach full production by 2027 (see China PV News Snippets).
In December 2023, it announced achieving 19.5% steady-state efficiency for its large-size perovskite modules (see China Solar PV News Snippets).
