Global solar independent power producer (IPP) Lightsource BP has hired Kevin Smith as the CEO of its business in the Americas. He will be responsible for leading the British company's expansion in this region.

Smith was till recently the CEO and one of the founding executives at California based solar energy storage company SolarReserve. Before that, he worked as the senior vice president at Invenergy LLC responsible for the growth of the business.
Having been in the renewable energy industry for over 30 years, Smith brings to Lightsource BP his experience in development, financing and construction of privately-owned energy projects in the United States (US) and beyond including solar and wind projects.
Talking about its business plans in the US, Lightsource BP says it recently announced a collaboration with California's Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) and New Mexico's Continental Divide Electric Cooperative (CDEC) for 25 MW PV power purchase agreements valid for more than 20 years.
