The Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), a subsidiary of Tata Power, has announced the appointment of Deepesh Nanda as the new president for its renewables division and the CEO and MD of the company. 

He has replaced Ashish Khanna, who has now been moved as the president of the company's Generation business that includes pumped hydro storage, hydro plants and other new initiatives. 

Nanda has moved to TPREL from GE Group, where he was till recently the CEO of South Asia for GE Gas Power. He was responsible for overseeing the business in India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Mauritius and Nepal. He was also looking after GE's Aero-Derivative Gas Turbine business in Asia as its president and CEO. 

At TPREL, Nanda has been put in charge of driving the growth and profitability of Tata Power's renewable energy portfolio. Currently, the company operates 5.52 GW of clean energy generation from solar, wind, hydro, and waste heat recovery assets. It is actively involved in offering B2C green energy solutions. 

Nanda will also lead innovation and digital transformation initiatives in the renewable energy sector for Tata Power. 

"I would like to thank Ashish Khanna for his outstanding contribution to the growth and success of our renewable energy business over the last seven years," said Nanda who joined the company on November 1, 2023. "Under his leadership, TPREL has become one of the largest renewable energy companies in the country, with a portfolio of over 4 GW of operational and another 3 GW of under-construction projects. I am confident that he will give direction and growth in his new role in our Generation businesses."
