The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of European ingot, bricks and wafer production start-up Norwegian Crystals (NCR), Gøran Bye has moved out of the company to lead the solar power initiatives of Australia-headquartered Fortescue Future Industries (FFI).   

An industry veteran, Bye worked as the vice president/chief financial officer (CFO) and later as the president/CEO of polysilicon producer REC Silicon in the US, moving on to the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company Masdar Industries as the director.  

 Bye was also the president/CEO, director of LDK Silicon & Chemical Technology Company, the materials division of China based LDK Group for over 2 years.  

Having led NCR for more than 5 years as its CEO, Bye has joined FFI as the company's GM Solar Technologies starting August 2023. According to his LinkedIn bio, he will be based out of Norway. 

FFI, as the green hydrogen arm of Andrew Forrest headed mining company Fortescue Metals Group, plans to develop solar, wind, hydro and geothermal powered green hydrogen hubs with end products to be marketed for hard-to-abate industries, including mining, globally.      

The news of Bye joining FFI follows several high-profile appointments announced by the company in the recent past. The list includes former President and CEO of GE Europe Dr Mark Hutchinson as the company's CEO, Reserve Bank of Australia's Deputy Governor Dr. Guy Debelle as the CFO and former Northern Territory Chief Minister Michael Gunner as the head of its Northern Australia business (see Former NT Chief Minister To Join Australia's FFI).
